Hello all!

My name is Lisa Caudill and I have been in higher education for eight years now; seven of my years were in Florida and I worked my was from an admissions advisor up to the role of Associate Diretor of Admissions.  I am extremely passionate about education which has made me extremely successful in my career.  If I can share one piece of advice that is that following compliance, rules and regulations set by the DOE is a critical part to your job, your institutions accreditation and your students well being.  We always want to do what is going to keep us in compliance 100% of the time; there is NO bending the rules!

How do you stay fresh for your students when you start to feel like a robot?

I think it is critical that advisors remember what drives them to be passionate about their career; it is making the difference in the lives of our students.  When I was a director we would do exercises that took us back to the basics of training because you always have to implement not practices to your daily routine.  Working with my advisors on a regular basis to keep them excited about what they did on a daily basis because it can get robotic.  Mix up the message; don’t always say the same thing.  What might pique the interest of one… >>>

Compliance and change

Scott, it is criticial to adhere to compliance and yes there are very strict rules.  For those of us who are on top on compliance it is so important to help our co-workers stay on top of it as well.  At times people can get relaxed and "slip" into bad habits; as a team we have to work together to make sure those bad habits don't get started.

Compliance and change

Being in higher education for over 8 years I have been through a lot of change in the for profit sector.  When the DOE cracked down I was lucky to be working for a college who was ahead of the game and was proactive with change, and change continued over and over.  With change comes some employee frustration and resistance.  Has anyone had an employee that just couldn't get the changes and couldn't comply?  I have and my situation ended in terminating the employee.  What did you do and how did you handle the situation?

Staying Compliant

As an experienced individual in higher education with several years in the industry compliance is critical to my success.  Often agents try to walk the line and sometimes cross it as it relates to compliance; I have personally have had to let an employee go after several coaching sessions he was still not following the guidelines.

Developing trust and coheson

            Encouraging and developing professional relationships within a newly formed team requires communication. In order to integrate the team and break the ice it is important for them to get to know each other first(Delete). The first meeting could start with introductions whereby members could share their professional backgrounds and some of their personal interests.  Another great way to integrate the team is through icebreakers, which is a way to help team members know each other better in a safe and fun way. People are not just their jobs, they are persons; and these exercises help the team see humanity… >>>

President Obama announced a set of ambitious proposals on Thursday aimed at making colleges more accountable and affordable by rating them and ultimately linking those ratings to financial aid.

Great post, always remember that this process is about the student and we as agents must be on our game and always provide the student with accurate compliant imformation in order for them to make the best decisions for THEM.  Not eveyone will enroll with you but if you conduct yourself in the most professional, compliant and knowledgeable way this will leave a great impression on the student.  I have had times in the past where a student did not enroll with me; however they told a friend or family memeber about their experience and they come in to get… >>>

How do you break the ice when meeting a potential student?

@Michael39 :  I have found over the years that if you can get the student talking about themself then this is a great way to get them out of their shell so to speak.  We as agents have a tendency to want to do all of the talking; however, practicing active listening skill is one thing we always forget.  People like to talk about themselfs and this is a big key to getting the student to open up.  Ultimately it's not about us but the student.
