I am currently an online adjunct professor in Billing and Coding and Medical Administrtive programs. I have worked within the
education sector for over 10 years and have held positions such as:
School Director, Associate Director of Education, Program Manager for
Allied Health Sciences and Education Chairperson. My passion for
teaching is what drives me to encourage and promote education for many
years to come.

Effective Time Management

How do you tell your students to manage their time for their courses? Is it effective? What success rates have you found?

Working in groups

In the online environment, I find that group projects are a challenge. Students already have individual schedule and trying to get them to works as a team is hard. Therefore, I do my best to keep projects simple and to the point. Large projects lead to low participation and lower grades.

Time Management

I find that my students have a huge issue with time management and creating a school/personal life balance. They often ask for extension because they cannot turn assignments in on time. I have created a calendar for my students that tends to help them tremendously. What have you done for your students that has been beneficial?

Objective Assessments

I really like the use of objective assessments. It simplifies the information for the students. I teach a lot of medical terminology courses and this helps student with the thousands of terms that they have to learn on a monthly basis. Letrice Mitchell

Before and After Assessments

I think that students should take assessments before a course begins and at the end as well. This gives the student an idea of what the course will entail and while taking the course they will be reminded of that question that may have been missed. Mrs. Mitchell

Following the Rubric

At times it is difficult to get student to follow the rubric. They often times debate the scores that were given and it can be challenging to explain to them why they received a certain score, since discussions are subjective, in most cases. How do you go about explaining to students why they received a low score, when posts are sometimes subjective? Mrs. Mitchell

Integrating Generations

Having the Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials in one class can be a challenge. I have found that having each student to do introductions including what they think will be the most challenging for them in an online course. Rude students

I often times have those student who are quite demanding on day 1. It can be difficult to get them to conform to proper communication but after weeks of speaking with them, it may be a personal issue going on. But, there habits have ruffled the feathers of other students. How do anyone else, handle students when they begin a course with negative behavior? Letrice Mitchell

You have a good strategy. I sometimes has a sense of relief to students to be able to have a process of elimination.
