It may be helpful to give students 5 colored cards to hand in each time they want to speak in class.  This may help students to prioritize sharing in class and allow for an even distribution of participation.

When facilitating discussions, help students to recognize they can share their experience even if they don't have expertise on the subject.  As the teacher, help explain or rephrase my understanding of what the student is saying and how it may tie into a bigger concept.

I completely agree with your post.  I think it's important to make sure we are assessing our students accurately.  In the mental health field, I am familiar with patients and students with psychiatric complications impacting their ability to test effectively.  A student with high anxiety may not test well, despite knowing the material.  It's important to tailor the assessments to our students as best as we can.

Students learn better in an active learning environment that encourages participation versus sitting and listening to a lecture.

Competency based learning is meant to bridge the gap between mind and body.  This will allow for a more comprehensive understanding of material and how to carry it out in the workplace.  This is very applicable to nursing.

One's education record is protected for life.  However, once that person dies, someone can request those education records.  I also found it interesting that an employee who is also a student at the school cannot look up his/her grades as an employee.  This is different from healthcare records, which ultimately belong to the individual whether he/she looks up the records as a patient or as an employee.  

Parents can view their child's records if the child is considered a dependent.  Also, directory information may be shared without the student's consent, so it's important for the student to review this every year.

Those who have access to a student's record due to teaching a class should only access the grades related to their own class.  Faculty must protect their students' privacy by being personally accountable.

It's important for the Title IX Coordinator to have background knowledge of the psychological effects of sexual assault in order to make and objective assessment.

While students are not required to report their cases to the police, they are encouraged to do so.  As an advocate for my students, I would recommend they report to the Title IX coordinator and police to maximize protection and investigation resources.
