So far this has been one of the best/worthy classes I have taken in Max Knowledge. It addresses all the things I deal with and better ways to deal with them. Our students know we have lifetime job placement. A mother asked me to call her son with leads. Instead I emailed him and let him know that we wouldn't have known his struggle personally because his mom is doing all his communications. I asked him to call me later today. Right away I found myself falling into my old trap of sending a student job leads and I thought to myself, "What area you doing"? I regrouped and asked him if he could possibly think of anywhere that he might go in person or on the internet to apply for jobs and I asked for him to email me back his thoughts.

Knowing that the steps for successful coaching are not linear, I think I can develop a worksheet I can use with each student to keep better track of their progress and areas where we may need to adjust the plans. Letting them know ahead of time what their career path may entail will help them make better decisions. Luckily in our business, finding a job isn't hard if you have the willingness to want to work. 

I learned how I would like to craft a presentation together for our students. I would like to be able to ask students questions afterwards about what they learned from this information and when I get an answer, I am going to reward that student with a quick remeinder card they can take on interviews with them. Ultimately I will give everyone in the class a card.

@rstarks :I think the resume is already being replaced by personal videos of the applicant. Parts of a resume will never go away but the way information about a person is relayed to the employer is already changing. I don't know if this wil be a good thing for those that are not computer saavy but this is the way society is moving so they will have to go that way too.

I have found out that now we will have to have a third party verify our work. Sometimes it's hard enough to get students to call you back and now we have to pay for someone else to come in and do the same thing we are already doing? One other barrier to employment that wasn't mentioned in this first topic is drugs. The government doesn't require a student to be drug free when they apply for FAFSA but we are required to assist them in finding work even when we know they aren't drug free.
