Instructors have a very fun job in learning to communication across generations. It is also very interesting to see these generations come together inside the classroom discussion forums.
It is very important to set clear, precise expectations about how communication should happen within the classroom. If not, things can quickly go array.
Along with communicating with generations within the classroom, it is also interesting to observe the different levels of motivation across generations.

In the past I have used welcome calls as a way to develop an initial connection and contact with my students. I have had both positive and negative feedback and reactions to these calls. I find that it can be an effective tool, but it can also be very time consuming depending on class size and if contact is made- the amount of questions a student may have. Do hybrid courses present a greater challenge for instructors since some of the information is presented online; while some is F2F?

Authentic assessments include portfolios, performance, and observations. How have you used authentic assessment in your online course?
I have used portfolios in my online classes. This has worked well. Students were asked to create portfolios based on content material learned during the course of an entire class.

In many of my courses the evaluations are already embedded within the course. However, they are generally the objective form of evaluation, along with a combination of subjective evaluation. Evaluations are provided on a weekly basis.

Summative assessments allow students a chance to see how well they learned the material at the end of a lesson, course, etc. This can be sort of a wake-up call for students if they are not doing well. It can provide a look into areas where improvement is needed.
It is important to ensure the material is thoroughly covered to give students a fair chance at performing well. It is also important to provide students with feedback.

Instructors are handed different tasks daily. I have learned some of the most valuable lessons about education from students with physical or learning disabilities. I find that learners that have different situations are more eager and motivated to learn.
