How do you adjust assessments for students with different learning styles or skill levels in your CTE courses?

Students learning styles and preferences are impacted by the period in which they grew up. Net Generation students differ from Baby Boomers and Generation X students in a number of ways and these differences requires teachers to consider ways to effectively reach the new learners.

The expectations should be made clear to the students, through samples of acceptable work. The students need to know what is expected of them, as well as how their work will be graded.

The first five to ten minutes of each class set the tone for the day. Students need to see the value of participating. Effective teachers start learning experience with subject-based activities that allow students to have fun, be creative and interact with each other.

A motivating classroom develops when the teacher and students create energy and enthusiasm together. Motivational learning is a partnership that develops when both the teacher and the learners have enthusiasm for the subject matter.

Accommodations provides the opportunity for students with learning disabilities to be successful in the course.

Studies indicate that strengths such as visual-spatial reasoning, divergent thinking, and hands-on problem solving are common among individuals with learning disabilities, making them highly effective in real-world and career-focused environments.

Having basic knowledge of related disorders helps educators who are working wiyh these individuals to be able to more accurately provide support in their learning efforts.

Regardless of the reasons the key is not to dwell on mistake but to learn from them so they won't be repeated.
