Online learning, while offering flexibility and accessibility, faces several limitations and misconceptions. Common limitations include a lack of face-to-face interaction, potential technical issues, and challenges with student engagement and self-discipline. Misconceptions often revolve around the idea that online learning is easier, lacks quality, or is socially isolating. 

Active learning engages students in the learning process through activities that encourage thinking, discussion, and application of knowledge.

some examples are group discussions, think-pair-share, peer teaching. 

 

Delivery of course content is one of importance aspect of effective teaching to establish student learning, engagement, and success, as it impacts their understanding, motivation and overall learning experience. 

Arrive early! 

Create a welcoming environment by welcoming them as they enter the classroom. Create a positive first impression.

Introduce the yourself and the course with a formal introduction and background of your experiance. review syllabus, icebreaker and allow for student introductions.

Establish classroom expectations by reviewing rules and procedures, setting tone and encouraging questions.

Implementation of a syllabus is crucial for the success of the teacher and student alike as it outlines course expectations, learning objectives, assignments, grading policies and important dates serving as a roadmap for students and a contract between the instructor and student. 

The three major roles played by instructors are:

  • Model
  • Manager
  • Motivator

Implementing will require me to focus on creating a dynamic learning environment, providing personalized support and fostering critical thinking and active engagement. 

To effectively project my presence in an online teaching environment, utilization of the following techniques I would implement would be the following:

  • implementing introductory videos
  • using active body language during live sessions
  • incorporating personal anecdotes
  • regular engagement with students through discussion boards
  • feedback
