I learned that organization is key. Keep good records of all communications with students to access any needed information in a timely manner. Remember the instructor is here to see that all students are given a fair opportunity to succeed in the course. Be sure to address any undesirable behavior and work to get student back on course. 

Placing asynchronous discussion topics on boards help keep all students involved. I learned this is a better route to go to encourage participation by all students. It's important to identify learning styles early to ensure student's success. Feedback is very important to continue to build confidence within your students.

It's very important to actively work on building a relationship with your students. You have to be intentional and attentive in order to be successful at this. Let students know who you are as well as learning who they are and sharing expectations helps break the ice and get things going on a smooth start.

I learned that as an online instructor it is imperative to be prepared to provide support all around for your students. Being available and responding to their needs promptly will contribute significantly to their success.
