I have a lot of ideas of how to rework my projects in a few course to better emphasize learning global perspectives in a way that is authentic and interesting to the student. In one class we spend time researching and presenting on specific food items and their uses, I plan to adjust the topic to provide more emphasis on understanding how the item is used across various cultures and regions. Then, to pull in the UN Sustainability goals, I want to have the students research the environmental and economic impacts of some of our food items and foodways.

I have identified the best ways I can internationalize a large percentage of my courses is to build onto my current student learning outcomes. By expanding and specifying within the SLOs I can add directed internationalization goals that will improve global competency.

I agree that internationalization and global competency are directly related to employability skills. While my curriculum naturally contains a lot of global perspective, I need to improve how I assess the students' progress on this to show intentionality and critical thinking skills too.

This module helped me identify key programs that exist to support global competence and internationalization. I was impressed by the Global Workforce Skills Certificate offered at Ivy Tech. In my local market, many of our CTE program graduates would benefit from this additional training and certification. Additionally, I appreciated the push to work on my own global perspective through additional training and teaching opportunities that exist. I didn't know so many programs existed for CTE community college teachers.

I was especially intrigued by the many applications of global competence. While I encourage global investigation through course activities and projects, I realized I could do more to simply recognize differing perspectives as part of my classes. In my culinary arts program we spend a decent amount of time exploring global flavors and cooking methods; generally speaking, this gives us a chance to look at different preferences and norms. This introductory unit has helped me see that I could do more to create these conversations intentionally in a way that welcomes critical thinking and reflection for my students.
