I completely agree with you. Recently, I have been listening to audio books and I find that I really enjoy it. The particular book I am listening to has the same author actually reading her own book, so it means so much more to me. It is as if, this author is jumping straight out of the book and into the the space that you are in. It totally helps to be immersed into the content of the book.

Learning acquisition have been under research for 30 years to understand how individuals develop students’ individual learning styles. This greater knowledge will help instructors and students develop greater ability to learn and retain new information according to each individuals innate and preferred learning styles.

Thank you for your post Hillary. My name is Feli Ruth and new to teaching. I will be inquiring and familiarizing myself with the variety of services that are available for the students so I can be prepared to give an answer should the need arises. Do you have any tips for a beginner instructor?

I learned that it is important for instructors to get to know the students background and most importantly the reason why they are taking the enrolled program.  Other information that the student’s can provide that can help instructors gauge how to help students become successful in their chosen course.

Hi Alycia, thank you for you comment. I agree with being kind and human. The video that was shown in this course that suggests never to sound like a know-it-all. Allowing the students to see the instructor as being human and relatable.

There are so many valuable information on how to be prepared as an instructor. It has given me better insight for preparation and expectations on the first day of class. I believe knowing the names of the each student is important, not only for the instructor to be able to communicate to the students, but to let the students know that they are seen individually also. The suggestion made to use a 3 x 5 index card sounds fun and engaging. I want to incorporate a fun learning experience as a way to help memory retention of the course content.

Comment on Raquel Sariles's post

Hi Raquel, thank you for your post. I complete agree with you - to lead by example. There is a hypocritical saying that I hear often that says, "Do as I say, not as I do." That saying prompts me to evaluate my own conduct with others, whether it is within my family setting or workplace.

Being an instructor is more than just teaching students a course. It involves modeling professionalism, planning ahead classroom time, and to motivate students to success. Modeling professionalism includes displaying appropriate behaviors, appropriate attire and proper conduct in and out of the classroom. Planning ahead involves being prepared with the course content, classroom organization and developing skills to help manage students' learning a success. To motivate students involves providing the students positive reinforcement and feedback.
