In this module, I learned that listening and speaking work together to deepen understanding. Encouraging students to speak helps them process and apply information, while active listening focuses on both words and intended meaning.

Instructors can boost motivation through meaningful feedback, breaking goals into smaller steps, and encouraging collaboration.

This module taught me that learners need multiple ways to show what they know, from discussions to visuals to creative media.

I learned that barriers in how content is presented can make learning much harder. Moving forward, I plan to apply this by offering multiple forms of representation (visuals, audio, and hands-on options) to support different learning needs. I’ll also pay closer attention to things like text size, layout, color contrast, and audio clarity, and pre-teach key vocabulary to make content more accessible for all students.

From this module, I learned that UDL helps meet the needs of all students by providing multiple ways to present content, allow expression, and engage learners. 

From this module, I learned that lecture notes should guide instruction without restricting flexibility, allowing me to answer questions and stay on track. I also gained clarity on the different types of assessments and how they each help measure student learning throughout a course. Most importantly, I learned that course outcomes should guide lesson planning so each lesson contributes directly to the larger goals. I plan to use these strategies to create more focused lessons and assess students more effectively.

I learned that using standards keeps lesson planning aligned with essential industry requirements and better prepares students for licensing exams. I plan to apply these strategies to ensure my objectives are targeted, meaningful, and relevant.

From this module, I learned the importance of writing a clear, student-focused rationale and a detailed procedure in my lesson plans. A concise rationale keeps the lesson meaningful and relevant, while a well-structured procedure guides the flow of instruction and supports effective time management. I also see the value of keeping organized lesson plans and a lesson plan folder so I can easily refer back to past materials and improve my instruction each time I teach the course. I plan to apply these strategies to stay consistent, prepared, and more effective in the classroom.

From this module, I learned how important it is to intentionally get to know students at the start of a course through icebreakers, information sheets, and conversations that help build a full picture of their backgrounds and experiences. I also learned the value of sharing a bit about myself to create connection and trust. Moving forward, I plan to use pretests and early check-ins to better understand what students already know so I can plan lessons that meet them where they are. From this module, I learned the value of using the total-points method of evaluation because it creates a balanced grading system that clearly shows students where to focus their efforts and prevents any single assignment from disproportionately harming their final grade. I also learned how important it is to regularly “troubleshoot” my grading methods to ensure fairness, accuracy, and transparency. Keeping the grade book current and having other educators review my system can help me avoid common pitfalls and better support students who want to understand their progress.
