I truly enjoyed the descriptive immediacy and time presence portion of the course. Sharing what is happening with me in relation to time based on the student's actions is a great way to establish a human connection. I may have utilized this technique without knowing it in the past, but I am fully aware of this strategy now and plan on utilizing it more.

I knew current students prefer utilizing cell phones and tablets, but I did not know the number was 74% based on a study. From my perspective, the mobile devices should only be used for reading, but I can understand how the ease of use can push students to use them over laptops and desktops. With this information, I do wonder how I can better interact with students in the online classroom. I wonder if creating a poll would be a good idea.

The four types of. learning. caught my attention along with the seven characteristics. The four types of learning, which are in person, web, hybrid, and online, surprised me because I only knew of three. The web portion is one I had not been familiar with since high school. Also, I originally believed there were only four characteristics, but learning that there are seven made me rethink my knowledge about the online non traditional learner. I believe there is much more I have to take in on the subject.

I learned some surveys show students believe online learning experiences can equal or be better than those offered on-campus. In addition, I got a refresher on internal, external, and campus factors driving student efforts.

I've been working with generative artificial intelligence since the Spring of 2023, and I found myself pleasantly surprised by this course: the idea of artificial intelligence having many areas where human engagement is critical helped me look at my job in a different way.
