I just completed the ED310, and I am excited about the different activities learnt that I am going to put into practice wherever and whenever possible. I believe that happy students learn better and I intend to do all that I can to help my students learn in a fun environment and at the same time, be able to retain the content.

When I started the course, I thought I knew a lot about teaching medical terminology. I am glad to say that I have learnt new ways of teaching this class, and I am even motivated to think of planning many more activies to keep the class interested and at the same time, retaining the content. I will also try out some of the activities with my other classes.

I would add that I have learned alot, and I am still learning. Some of my students are so well versed in this modern technology, and at times, I give such students opportunities to explain the latest information they have found out. When I ask questions, it gives the ones who are timid, a chance to feel free to ask questions which we can all have a discussion about. When teaching certain topics, I have on more than one occasion had to make an abrupt change of the lesson plan. In a communications class, I realized that the students were getting bored of repetition, and I had to borrow some material from another lesson to make the topic of the day a little bit more interesting. This worked for me and I have since done it again.

I also think it is important to remind students often about professionalism whenever possible. I have realized that some of them take the subject seriously, but others do not because they do not picture themselves in a professional environment, because they have never had the experience.

I would not take any drastic action based on suspicion. What I would do is take the students out of the classroom and give them a verbal warning about what I felt suspicious about. I would then send them back to the classroom and assign them different seats for the remainder of the test.

If I found a student cheating and I have no solid proof of it, I would privately speak to them very strongly about their behavior and give them a different test if I have one at hand. In order to minimize such occurrences, I would ask students to put their book bags at the back of the classroom before begining their test and retrieve them as they go out after the test.

In maintaining professionalism, you do not cease to be human. As long as you are confident in yourself and in your work, it is possible to maintain instructor/student boundaries and at the same time, have a good rapport.

What happened to you happens in many other places of work. Not so long ago, a collegue whom I hold in high regard told me that in the beginning, the first two months would be difficult, but with time things would get better. When I am faced by challenges, which happens often, I remember his words, and I in turn take advantage of every opportunity availed to me to learn new ways from where I gain experience.
