ED150 is supposed to be Assessment Strategies for CTE Instructors - Intro to CTE Assessment and Evaluation. I'm confused.

This training reinforced that effective teaching goes far beyond delivering content. I learned that student success is increased when instruction is student-centered, competency-based, engaging, and aligned with clear learning outcomes. I gained a deeper understanding of curriculum planning, instructional alignment, formative and summative assessment, classroom management, inquiry-based learning, workplace simulation, and the importance of meeting the needs of all learners through accommodations and modifications.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned is that students learn best when they are actively engaged. As a Health Science educator, I plan to incorporate more inquiry-based activities, hands-on labs, simulations, case studies, and… >>>

This module taught me that one of the most common instructor mistakes is focusing too much on authority instead of building respect and positive relationships with students. I learned that students are more likely to engage and succeed when they respect their teacher, and that respect is earned through fairness, consistency, professionalism, and genuine concern for students. I also learned that making a mistake in the classroom does not diminish a teacher's credibility; admitting mistakes and correcting them demonstrates honesty, confidence, and professionalism. In addition, effective classroom management depends on clear expectations, consistency, and creating a positive learning environment rather… >>>

This module taught me the importance of actively monitoring students to ensure they are engaged, understanding the material, and making progress. I learned that not all struggling students are disruptive; some may be uninterested, withdrawn, or quiet, making it difficult to determine whether they are grasping the content. Effective teachers observe student behavior, ask questions, check for understanding, and build relationships that help identify students who may need additional support.

I will apply this knowledge by regularly monitoring student participation, using formative assessments, checking in with quiet students, and providing encouragement to students who appear disengaged. I will create a… >>>

This module taught me that challenging student behaviors, such as lack of engagement, blaming others, or wanting to quit, are often signs that students need additional support, encouragement, or a stronger connection to their learning. I learned the importance of building positive relationships, identifying the root cause of behaviors, maintaining high expectations, and using positive interventions rather than reacting with frustration.

I will apply this knowledge by having private conversations with students, helping them set achievable goals, providing encouragement and constructive feedback, and connecting lessons to real-world careers. When students become discouraged or disengaged, I will work to understand their… >>>

This module taught me that effective classroom management is about creating a positive, organized, and respectful learning environment that promotes student success. I learned the importance of establishing clear expectations, consistent procedures, positive relationships, and engaging instruction from the beginning of the school year. Setting the stage for success helps prevent behavior problems and creates a classroom culture where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn.

I will apply this knowledge by clearly communicating expectations, building positive relationships with students, maintaining consistent routines, and creating an engaging classroom environment. By being organized, fair, and consistent, I can help students… >>>

This module taught me that inquiry-based instruction and the workplace model of learning help students become active participants in their education rather than passive learners. I learned that students gain a deeper understanding when they ask questions, investigate problems, think critically, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. The workplace model emphasizes hands-on learning, teamwork, problem-solving, and the development of skills that are directly related to future careers.

I will use this approach by creating activities that encourage students to explore answers, solve healthcare-related scenarios, participate in simulations, and practice real-world skills. In my Health Science classes, I will incorporate… >>>

This module taught me the importance of meeting the needs of all students by understanding and implementing accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs and 504 Plans. I learned that accommodations help students access the curriculum without changing learning expectations, while modifications adjust the learning objectives to meet a student's individual needs.

I will apply this knowledge by reviewing student IEPs and 504 Plans, providing appropriate accommodations and modifications, and creating an inclusive classroom where all students have the opportunity to succeed. By adapting instruction, assessments, and learning activities based on individual needs, I can help every student achieve their highest… >>>

This module taught me that curriculum planning is essential for creating organized, effective instruction that aligns learning objectives, classroom activities, assessments, and industry standards. I learned that careful planning helps ensure students develop the knowledge and skills they need while keeping instruction focused on program outcomes and workforce expectations.

I will apply this knowledge by planning lessons with the end goals in mind, aligning activities and assessments to learning objectives, and organizing instruction so that students can progressively build and demonstrate competency in health science skills and concepts.

This module taught me the difference between formative assessments (assessment for learning) and summative assessments (assessment of learning), and how both are important for measuring student progress and achievement. I learned that formative assessments provide ongoing feedback during instruction, while summative assessments evaluate whether students have mastered the required competencies at the end of a unit or course.

I will apply this knowledge by using quizzes, skill checks, observations, and classroom activities to monitor student progress and provide feedback throughout the learning process. For competency-based learning, I will use performance assessments, skills demonstrations, and certification-aligned evaluations to ensure students can… >>>
