There are times when I bring students into the computer lab to work on a project and I find them on social media websites. I'm thinking though, that maybe if they were not in a traditional setting and working at their own pace maybe this wouldn't be the case.

Excellent course! The highlight of this course was the learning disabilities strategies. Although I am familiar with the different approaches one can use in helping these students, this course reenforced and gave me new ideas for use in the classroom.

I throughly enjoyed the exercises within this course. I can actually visualize the "extrinsic" and "intrinsic" type of student currently in my class. The student who needs the "applause" or "great job!" response, and the student who is so hungry for information they can't wait to move on to the next chapter in their books. Great course!

I throughly enjoyed the examples given for each topic within this course, from the "to do" lists to the nurse's issues.
because I can relate to many of them. It may seem silly, but my way of reducing stress is to play word games for about 30 minutes when I get home from work. The games help to release the tension that has built up during the day. Knowing how some students also feel stressed I always lend an "ear", because sometimes just having someone to listen helps to relieve the stress albeit it won't solve the problems, but the student may feel… >>>

I can understand your excitement. I've learned that there is a test that can be incorporated into the classroom to test the different learning styles of students and would like to use this for future classes.

I agree! What an excellent course! I especially enjoyed the section on the "silent " student. Having this type of student work in a small group was an excellent idea!
Great idea! I'm always looking for new ways to draw the "laid back" student into discussions. Although I have never tried placing them into groups before, I look forward to trying this for the last 2 weeks of the MOD. Another good idea that I've already started using was to have the class read the text material, and have them write their questions down on a plain sheet of paper without signing their name. I collect the questions at the beginning of class, discuss the questions, and no one is embarassed by "stupid" questions. Very enlightening course!

I couldn't agree with you more. As I read through one of the forums the other night, I really had to laugh at how one
of the instructors solved the problem of cell phones in the classroom. She dressed sloppily and came into the classroom
and slammed her books on the desk. Then proceeded to sit in the chair and put her feet on the desk and began
talking on her cell phone! The students didn't know what to make of it! They began laughing, and then she said to
them that this is the way they behaved… >>>

This course certainly reinforced my soft skills! Sometimes we need to step back and evaluate ourselves a bit in order to become better in the classroom. I emphasize professionalism in the classroom and often take an entire lecture period discussing how important it is for success in the workplace. Sadly, I feel professionalism has gone by the wayside, especially in the medical field.
