About me

I am a life-long learner, educator, web designer, graphic artist, tech enthusiast, and entrepreneur. I am also a proud US Army combat veteran who served during Operation Enduring Freedom. I have six years of progressive retail management experience and have been working in the post-secondary education industry for nine years with roles ranging from Faculty to Associate Dean. Currently, I am the Program Advisor and Lead Faculty for the School of Business as well as the Learning Management System Administrator (Canvas) and Club Advisor for the Leadership Club at California College San Diego. I also have a sole proprietorship that help small business develop through graphic design projects, social media marketing, operations management, and technology consultation.

Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Art in Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Science in Web Design and Development, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Art in Organizational Leadership. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science with an emphasis on Cybersecurity and Networking.

My ultimate goal is to achieve a Doctoral in Education Leadership or Information Technology, where I will use that platform to continue to inspire, and add value to others.

Hello Everyone,

One the most important take aways that I've learned fro, this module was to encourage a high degree of participation and interactivity and to help learners feel comfortable with technology. In my remote courses online, I have learned that when students are unfamiliar with the technology, they are prone not to show up or participate. I have also noticed that by makeing the class as interative as possible, by asking questions, calling students by name, and having everyone turn on their cameras, the class is more entertaining. When learners are engage, learning becomes fun and pleasant process.

Synchronous versus Asynchronous Learning | Origin: EL104

I learned the advantages and disadvantages of synchronous versus asynchronous learning. I believe that a combination of both is necessary as students need the flexibility to learn whenever they can and the oppertunity to interact with instructors on the spot.

Technology Tools | Origin: EL104

I learned the five teaching styles:

authority- this is a more authoritative and teacher centered approach to online instruction where the instructor does most of the talking. I don't think this is the best approach as students need to also engage in the course in order to foster critical thinking.
demonstrator- this is another teacher centered approach where the instructor shows the student how to do something. In regards to technology, students have to have the same tools as the instructor and it may be difficult to demonstrate something on one device as the student is preoccupied with watching the
