It is a good idea to teach the students time management and tone skills that are useful. Students do have a need to know how they are doing in a course. What to learn from or change behaviors to get a better result.
Online courses are developed with a variety os factors that help the student reach success. They are graded differently than an face to face class. They do determine if the student is understanding the subject matter. With the rubies involved it is a well designed course.
I learned that student evaluations are essential to the class structure and it's objectives there are different types of evaluations.
Not all suit the course we may be in, but we use them and learn from them.
Most of the tests we have given out have been Norm-referenced it is a method that shows the knowledge of the subject. I like to know the student understands the subject matter so I can see the effectiveness of criterion as well
Creating and connecting ideas and components to engage in creative thinking is a cornerstone for teaching online the student expect to be assessed so they know their progress.
Although technology tools are very helpful. Not all are right for the option you may be using it for. Try tO us a tool that has the student learning from the environment in the classroom. You may not be able to use all tools some will make the assignment harder.
I learned the difference in synchronous and Asycronous in this module . Teaching with all students in one area and on the other hand teaching at times that the student has themselves.
Looks like ther is more to being an instructor which you need to be a facilitator. Needs of students need different grading because we have to grade not only on what they learned but how they understand the subject matter.
The communication is important in both types. Syncronos is instant and in real time Asyncrnous is a lest checked post and is not real time.
Most students want an answer quicker so they would us the synchronous way.
Not knowing that these technology tools are out there leaves you at a disadvantage. If a tech tool is not effective then you can research to find one that you like specifically. Seems to be a good aspect of online learning.
