In giving feedback, asking questions to guide further inquiry or to correct frequent problems that still exist with the student's work can facilitate improved learning. Also, providing two columns on rubrics, one with a self-assessment and another with instructor assessment can help the student understand how to independently make their project better. 

Having students maintain a portfolio of the major assignments is helpful in evaluating the course, but may also be beneficial to the student in reviewing the concepts they have learned throughout the class. It can also be used as a comprehensive study guide. Pre/Post test are wonderful indicators of students progress in the subject over time as well. 

There are several different communication pathways involved in learning, including the teacher, student, and group crosses. Activating all of these components in the framework of the class will lead to a more effective online learning plan.  

Learning objects may be developed by the institution, but are also available as add-on components to most e-texts. Students benefit greatly within an online learning environment when consistency is imparted. 

Instructors can minimize student attrition, by reminding them of the resources their institution has to offer, such as resources for counseling and technical support. Another topic, synchronous chat interruptions by a single individual are typically not as disruptive as synchronous interruptions. The other students are usually able to avoid this type of conflict independently. 

It is important in the learner expererience that they are provided with feed back in a timely manner. Respond with constructive criticism to boost confidence in participation. 

Posting a video clip of your expertise and accomplishments is very effective in asserting authority from a distance. Students feel more comfortable when they can have a greater connection with their instructor. 

I have learned that although, the instructor may possess a wealth of knowledege about the course content, if the course management system is not effective, then the online learner's experience will suffer and may not retain as much information than otherwise. Having a good understanding of the course management system saves time, not only in the classroom, but also with IT.
