I have learned that it is important not to assume that online students have access or knowledge on using all online tools. As instructors, we need to find a way to provide this access to all students if the course is requiring it to be used.
It is very important to have professional communication online with the students and also make sure that students are responding in professional ways. Sometimes we may need to help them with their communications skills.
I have learned that it is very important to still have the quiet students engage and that we should not make the assumption that this type of learning will be easier for them.
I learned that effective online communication is imperative to engage the student's learning and that sometimes, we still need to redirect their behavior online.
It is important to establish authority within the online platform to make sure the platform is used for class/topic purposes. We should also establish or presence for support throughout the course and the student's success.
I have learned that it is important to know the online platform, so you are able to utilize the tools and engage with your students.
There are many different methods of learning and we do need to trial and error those methods. If one does not work for your current set of students, take note, regroup, and try another method.
I have learned that I first will introduce myself and the course. It would also be good for the students to introduce themselves to the entire class or be put into small groups to meet new people and find a sense of belonging.
I have learned that it is very important to arrive early and greet the class while interacting with them. It is also important to know the information you are going to teach along with making sure you have all the necessary supplies available.
I have learned that showing up for the students and modeling the expectation we have for them is very important. This also builds trust and integrity with the students.

With a few exceptions, Performance Groups are also publicly available to any member of the Lounge to maximize peer-to-peer learning and performance outcomes.
