I foound this to be very true, especially with students who hae struggled in school beofer. I have a lot of students who did not succeed in HS, and they feel that no one has faith in them, which causes them to fail. When I get these students and remind them that they can do it, they usally meet and/or exceed my expectations. I think that a little encouragement really goes a long way.
I love the message in this tutorial about modeling the behavior that you want to see in others. We have a professionalism initiative currently in place at my school. One of the most difficult challenges is trying to get all faculty to model the apporpriate behavior--getting to the class 15 minutes early and being the last to leave, getting assignments grade in a timely manner etc. This is a great reminder to all that you are being watched wether you know it or not. Always hold yourself to the highest expectations, and others will follow.

I really enjoyed this class becuase it helped me realize what type of instructor I am. I am a cross between a buddy and a guide; it depends on the class. I really notice in the classes where my buddy persona takes charge if it is not what this class needs. It is difficult to change midterm. It is a lot easier to start of strict and realease the hold a bit than to go the other way.

Also, I will admitt that I am not a very confrontational person, so I tend to let some "bad behaviors" slide when… >>>
