I also use role play in the classroom and feel that it is extremely effective for "Nursing" students in understanding how to care for patients in the clinical setting. I actually enjoy and participate in the role play myself. The students have given positive feedback about the role play activities.

I think that you have a point about what our expectations are about asking students questions and about why they do not participate or answer what we have asked. It is sometimes dependent on the subject matter, how prepared or not prepared the students are, or how effective the lthinlecturer is on the content delivery. I think that this couse has opened up a much needed discussion on "questions"; the types and specific exampes.

I think that the course was great. There were so many important strategies effective techniques to utilize that will enhance the instructor's teaching skills. Classroom management is crucial to having students to gain the knowledge and understanding they need to be successful in their studies. It is extremely important to have discipline among students and be in control of your classroom, so that it does not interfere with their learning.

I totally agree that the course further enhances your knowledge about  active learning and helps you to utilize other ways to assist students to improve critical thinking skills. It is so important to actively engage the students in the classroom and be able to effectively use activities, which will enhance their knowlege and understanding. I have been able to use some of the knowledge learned in the course, in the classroom and found it to be effective.

Hi Colleen,

I am faculty in an ADN Program, but extremely accelerated. It is extremely hard to effectively help students to critically think and be able to use analysis in either the classroom and clinical environment. Factors that affect the success is the level of educational knowledge they come into the program, GPA, reading comprehension, and communication skills. The length of the Nursing Program has a direct correlation to the success of both student and program.

I totally agree about education. It is lifelong learning and in order not to become stagnant, you must continue educating yourself. I completed my BSN and MSM degrees back to back. I most currently completed my Certificate in Nursing Education and will go into the MSN in Education in the fall.

My possible future plans is to complete the Doctorate of Nursing Practice perhaps a year later after the MSN in Education. I have been an Educator at heart from the beginning of my Nursing career and want to continue with academia for the next few years.

What I have seen in the Accelerated ADN Program is that adult students are coming into this type program mostly because of the time factor. They have jobs, families and many responsibilities and want to get a degree quick; but, are not educationally, intellectually or mentally prepared a lot of the time. They sometimes do not have the basic fundamentals of reading, writing, and math.

We had an initial Cohort of (30) students and by the 2nd term, (16) of these students had to be withdrawn from the program. They were not prepared and found it extremely difficult to pass… >>>
