Meagan, Great. And I think part of that professionalism and growth includes getting students tro be critical thinkers. In this way, we can help them not just in their employment but in their lives and personal interests Barry Westling
Meagan, I think when we are prepared, classes run smoother, are better organized, and students benefit by better retention of needed information. Barry Westling
Tawnya, Absolutely!I believe a minimum expectatation students have is that their instructor will be in classs everyday, materials ready, resources gathered, copies made, equipment set-up (as applicable), and available to answer questions beforehand. And they expect an organized, logical flow to the class topics. Anything less is simply unacceptable. Barry Westling
Adrienne, If I pay to go to a class and the teacher is late, unprepared, appears incompetent, insincere, or does not convey confidence, I begin to wonder about that individual's ability to help me learn. Barry Westling
Aprilan, Yes, so important to inform early on, and I think doing so frequently also can have an impact on steering students into the direction of better performance by not letting too much time lapse before receiving guidance, suggestions for improvement, advice, support and encouragement. Barry Westling
Michael, I think color brings energy to most everything. For organizing, colored tabs or folders help to quickly locate a specific file. In MS Office calendar, colors help track meetings, tasks can be organized, and emails sorted by my own preferences and priorities. Sort of like icing on a cake, a little color in materials given to students brings a little more life into otherwise drab handouts, worksheets, and illustrations. Barry Westling
Annette, Students will always respond to their instructor when support and encouragement accompanies suggestions for improvement. Barry Westling
Tawnya, Sure. No yelling or harshness is needed. In fact, more can be effectively conveyed when care and concern for the students success is expressed. Barry Westling
Herman (Lonnie), This trait is so welcomed by students. Those that are willing to freely dish it out generously produce better quality students. Barry Westling
Annette, Being ready can mean a lot of things. But the instructor who has taken time and effort to ready themselves will see results in their students performance. Barry Westling
