I learned that while licensing from state licensing boards is mandatory, educational institutions do not require accreditation and that it is instead something voluntary. This was surprising to learn and it highlights the unique circumstances surrounding each institution. Furthermore, I had not been aware that accreditation means that a certain number of meetings for faculty and staff must be scheduled, also highlighting the differences between universities and what admissions representatives need to be aware of to better understand their institutions and what opportunities exist to better inform themselves.

I learned that although student services are regulated and required to be offered, schools can go beyond the minimum number of services and offer more. That highlights the need for admissions representatives to understand what their institution specifically offers rather than relying on general knowledge and assuming that all institutions will contain the same services.

Schools create and maintain internal policies and guidelines to ensure that paperwork is filled out and handled properly to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies while also making sure that transparency is present for students regarding the process.

I have learned that it is necessary to not just complete the training and understand current regulations, but to keep yourself updated as an admissions representative with new terms and policies. Doing so allows you to be a well qualified admissions representative that can apply the knowledge to unique situations regarding students while still maintaining regulatory and institutional standards.
