AI can increase engagement, improve accessibility for diverse learners, and help students better understand difficult concepts through customized explanations and examples. In addition, AI can help students develop technology and digital literacy skills that are increasingly important in modern careers. However, there are also potential concerns. Overreliance on AI may reduce critical thinking, independent problem-solving, creativity, and persistence if students begin depending on AI to complete tasks instead of actively learning.

I plan to use ChatGPT to streamline repetitive planning and feedback tasks so I can spend more time focusing on student engagement, critical thinking, and meaningful classroom interactions.

ChatGPT can personalize learning by adjusting explanations, examples, difficulty levels, and pacing to better match each student’s needs and preferred way of learning.

 
One thing I learned about the history of AI is that artificial intelligence has been developing for decades and began as an effort to create computer systems capable of mimicking human thinking and problem-solving.

 
One thing I learned about using assessment to improve teaching is that assessment should not only measure student learning, but also provide instructors with valuable information about the effectiveness of their instruction, pacing, and learning activities. AI tools can help educators quickly identify patterns in student performance, common misconceptions, areas where students consistently struggle, and concepts that may need to be retaught or approached differently.

One thing I learned about measuring workplace readiness with AI is that AI tools can help educators evaluate not only academic knowledge, but also the practical skills and professional behaviors students need in real-world careers.

One thing I learned about providing developmental feedback with AI is that AI can help instructors create more timely, detailed, and growth-focused feedback that encourages students to improve rather than simply focusing on grades.  The timing of feedback is also especially important. 

One thing I learned about evaluating student work with AI is that AI can be a valuable tool for improving the efficiency, consistency, and quality of assessment and feedback. AI tools can help instructors quickly review student submissions, identify common misconceptions, generate rubric-aligned feedback, and provide students with more immediate responses to their work.

One thing I learned about sustainable planning systems is that AI can help educators create more organized, efficient, and reusable instructional workflows instead of constantly rebuilding course materials from scratch. In my BIO 205 Microbiology course, I can use AI to help develop consistent lesson structures, discussion prompts, laboratory support materials, formative assessments, and review activities that can be adapted and improved each semester based on student performance and feedback.

 
One thing I learned about solving complex design problems with AI is that AI can act as a powerful brainstorming and problem-solving partner during the instructional design process. AI tools can help break large or complicated teaching challenges into smaller, more manageable parts by generating lesson structures, suggesting differentiated strategies, identifying gaps in instruction, and offering multiple approaches to student engagement and assessment.
