Activity

Currently we introduce several members of the team during orientation, however creating amore interactive orientation will be a fun way to change the status quo during that important first day.

I do feel better knowing what guidlines to use when dealing with a student and a well meaning family or program that the student is a part of. This information will help to manage those conversations better and with more confidence.

Our population ranges from studnets who join us directly from highschool all the way to students who are changing their careers. The motivation for each of our studnets is very different and we must address the retention of our students individually.

Our campus just started a new group of students. We had a studnet concerned that she would not fit in or be able to participate in class to the best of her ability. After a conversation on the evening of orientation explaining the process of proper draping (we teach massage therapy and skin care). Then a few check-ins with her over the first two days of class she is feeling more confident and like she is fitting in with her classmates. She has mentioned she is happy she made the decision to attend our school.

We had two students who had a misunderstanding. After speaking with both of them seperately, myself and another administrator facilitated ameeting and allowed the two to speak. They each took a moment to share their perceptions and feelings and were able to understand each other. They both completed the program successfully and as friends.

After going through the information in this course I am curious how is it I can put some of these processes into practice with a department of approximately 10 people. Particularly with concern to a possible future crisis being fueled by an unhappy staff member.
