I found some useful information. Some schools tend to focus on things like activities and appreciate events, award to improve retention, while communication of policies, procedures and resources falls behind as we all assume that "everyone already knows."

Tracy, I would take a tell them I would take a message and if the person is there I will try to give it to them. I would also ask if there is an emergency. Without actually walking the building there is no way for us to know they are physically there.  Some students have restraining orders against family or friends, and  I would not want to alert them to the presence of the student on campus. 

If there is information in Campus Vue stating otherwise, I would follow that information.
