About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Joseph, What do you typically do to get students excited about coure content? I generally mention their potential income for knowing the skill every oppotunity I can. Money is a great motivator. Patricia
Hi Hany, Control is extremely important in the classroom. If you don't control the classroom, students will, then problems will come about. Patricia
Hi David, For those who test the waters, make a sacrificial lamb out of them. They need to be reprimanded so that they know and others know that you mean business. Patricia

Hi Ricardo,

Teaching is certainly challenging because each student is different.  We must be creative with our methods of teaching in order to reach everyone.

Hi Donald,

Absolutely!  The student/teacher business needs to be taken care of inside of the building in a very professional manner.  The instructor needs to play the role of the educator, and the students stays in his/her place.  Keep the relationship strictly about business.

Hi Donna, Thumbs up for holding these students to the same standards as for other students. Your colleague should not make you llok like the bad guy by letting these students get away with murder. These type students can be intimidating, but they should not be granted preferential treatment. Keep holding EVERYONE to the same standards. Patricia
Hi Lacey, Super response! Students really need to and want to hear about our professional experiences as to how they pertain to the subject matter. As educators we must certainly practice what we preach, being on top of our game is of the utmost importance. Patricia
Hi Carol, Guest speakers really do add a lot of spark to the course. It really is good for students to hear from a different resource other than us all the time. Guest speakers validate what we teach in the classroom. Patricia
Hi Beth, Giving students individualized attention normally is magical. They will come out of their shell most of the time. Patricia
Hi Martin, Absolutely! A private setting works extremely well with these type of students. They are much more receptive one-on-one. Patricia
