About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Claudia, I am still baffled by this, students simply do not won't to read, and this applies to college students as well...unreal. It is hard to be successful if you do not ever pick up a course book to read it. Patricia
Hi Angelia, I do not know of a trick, but we have to continue to talk and point out to them when appropriate that it is really their fault. Patricia
Hi Celesta, I like your approach to this, and I especially like how you do it from the very beginning. Students must learn it is not all about pointing the finger at others. Patricia
Hi Douglas, Great ideas as tho how to curtail cheating. It is much harder for students to cheat on an essay test versus a multiple choice/matching test. Patricia
Hi Candy, I concur! Add variety to teaching, thus adding flavor. Use PowerPoint presentations, the internet, role play, lecture, group activities, activites, etc. to keep students excited about learning. Patricia
Hi Candy, Share your many years of experince/stories with your students. Based on your experience you can add a lot of flavor to your lectures. Your students want to and need to hear your stories as they are applicable to the course lesson. Experience really is the best teacher. Patricia
Hi George, Absolutely! Students need to and want to know how the information is going to be applied. Patricia
Hi Angelia, Also thoroughly go over the syallbus the first day of class. Remember, the syllabus is truly your road map. Patricia
Hi Clifton, Preparation is key! I always plan for every course I teach at least a week in advanced. Patricia
Hi Jimmy, I like how you make it plain on Day 1. Students really appreciate it when you shoot straight with them from Day 1. Patricia
