About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Kyle, Great points! When students learn how the course can benefit them, they really become interested and buy into the course. Patricia
Hi Jumana, I like how you do various activites to encourage the silent student to get comfortable speaking to the class and in class. Patricia
Hi Carla, As instructors we should certainly look the part! We should want students to emulate our dress professionally. Patricia
Hi Nisa, Great response! We as instructors should never lower our standards to better relate to the students. We should encourage our students to increase their standards to better relate to us. Patricia
Hi Vanessa, On Day 1 students need to understand why they are taking a particular course. This is the first thing that an instructor should address on Day 1. Patricia
Hi Elaine, I like to make my students spread out if possible, leaving an empty seat between them. Patricia
Hi Mitchell, Guest speakers really put things in perspective for students. Students are inspired by guest speakers, and they truly begin to believe it is a light at the end of the tunnel. Patricia
Hi Katrina, I can tell you are the professional that you want your students to become. Continue to lead by example and be that positive role model for your students. Patricia
Hi Laura, Students are generally very grateful whenever examples are shared based on what they are to do. Clarity is gained when students can see what is expected of them. Patricia
Hi Lisa, Advanced notice is key! Our students have a lot going on in their lives. Most students take advantage of knowing what needs to be done a head of time. Patricia
