Activity

I learned that Gen Y and Gen Z students are comfortable with technology and often benefit from interactive, collaborative, and hands-on learning experiences. I plan to incorporate technology as a tool to increase engagement while providing opportunities for teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. I also want to make sure technology supports learning objectives rather than becoming the focus of the lesson.

I learned that Generations X, Y, and Z have different experiences, values, and learning preferences. Generation X tends to be independent, Generation Y values teamwork and collaboration, and Generation Z is comfortable with technology and prefers interactive, hands-on learning. Understanding these differences can help teachers and supervisors better meet the needs of different learners.

Interacting with and learning about people from different generations allows teachers to develop a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultural reference points, technological habits, and communication styles their students bring into the classroom. This cross-generational insight helps educators bridge potential empathy gaps, adapt their teaching strategies to resonate with varying perspectives, and create more inclusive learning environments.

I learned that student feedback can help improve internship programs and school curriculum. Sharing experiences helps teachers understand what is working and what could be better. I can apply this by encouraging students to reflect on their experiences and use their feedback to improve future opportunities.

I learned that a good supervisor provides guidance, support, and clear goals to help interns succeed. I can apply this by giving students opportunities to observe, practice skills, and learn from different professionals. I also learned the importance of regular feedback and communication to help students grow professionally

I learned that reflecting on an internship helps students recognize what they gained from the experience. Presentations and reports allow students to share what they learned with others. Evaluations also help improve future internships and help students think about their career goals.

Modeling professional behavior helps students understand what is expected in the workplace. Teachers and mentors can demonstrate this through communication, responsibility, respect, and a positive attitude. Students learn by watching others and practicing these behaviors in real-life situations.

Experiential learning allows students to connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations. Internships give students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop important skills, and explore possible careers. I learned that these experiences can help students build confidence and better prepare them for future jobs.

I learned that being a culturally competent teacher means recognizing my own assumptions and biases and understanding how they can affect my students. I can apply this by getting to know each student as an individual and recognizing their unique strengths, backgrounds, and needs. My goal is to create an inclusive classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and supported in reaching their full potential.

I have learned that creating an inclusive classroom means understanding each student's individual strengths, needs, and learning styles. I want to apply strategies such as visual directions, modified assignments, extra time, and peer support in my PLTW biomedical science lessons. I will continue to make adjustments as needed so that all students feel included and have the opportunity to succeed.
